Dog Missing While Hiking - Canton - 5-2019

Marceline took off while on a hike. Her owners waited and called her, but she didn't return.

I saw their missing dog post on FB and offered to help. First, I advised them to sit in the parking lot of the trail all night if needed. I was sure she would return looking for them. They didn't think that would work.

I went to the parking lot at about 8 pm and set up my camera and trap. No one was there waiting for her. The trap was tied so it would not close. I needed to be sure that she would go in the trap all the way to the back where the trip plate is.

Then I parked down the road in another parking lot and waited. Within a short period of time, she showed up and was checking out the trap. I saw that she would fit the trap and go all the way to the back. I went back, set trap to capture, and went back to the other parking lot.

Within 20 minutes, I got an image of her in the closed trap. I drove over to calm her while I called the owners and told them I had their dog. They were surprised.

Dogs lost while hiking often return to the trailhead. If that happens to you, sit at the trailhead all night if necessary.

Mitchell - Avon
Lost May 27, 2023
Reunited June 26, 2023

vvMitchell went missing from his Cliff Drive home in Avon when he was suspected of bolting out a door. His elderly owner was unable to search for him so I offered to help.

I set up a trap and camera at the house. I hung large, laminated signs in the area and posted to social media.

I got a possible sighting around the corner, so I moved equipment. Wonderful neighbors helped keep trap baited and set up to reduce the number of trips I needed to make.

Got another possible sighting a way away. Set up equipment, but determined it wasn’t Mitchell.

After a month of no more leads, a call came in that a homeowner had a cat he believed was Mitchell. This cat was hanging around in his yard and he was able to bring him inside. He had cat scanned and cat was microchipped, but not registered.

I contacted the owner’s son with this information and urged him to find out if Mitchell was microchipped and go see the cat.

It was Mitchell! At 12 years old, this indoor cat found his way from Cliff Drive, up the mountain to Brian’s Wood!
